So... what is a Broody Mare

If you Google it, a "broodmare" is simply defined as a female horse used for breeding. But anyone who’s spent time with a heavily pregnant mare, knows she is so much more than a dictionary definition.

Like a broody hen who settles protectively over her eggs, a broody mare is tuned in, watchful, and deeply maternal — even before the foal arrives. Her body knows. Her instincts sharpen. And often, during the final weeks of pregnancy, she may turn her caretaking energy toward you — becoming unusually clingy, affectionate, or protective. It’s as if the hormones that prepare her to mother her foal also invite her to nurture the humans around her- YOU! It's a wonderful time to bond deeper with your mare. Though, those hormones can cause some mood swings, so don't take it personal when she occasionally wants to be alone as well.

It’s beautiful, humbling, and sometimes a little bewildering. The Broody Mare has been created to help you recognize, honor, and support that transformation — for your mare, and for yourself.
